MCTIERNAN, JAMES “SCOT”, 86, of York, ME formerly of Woodcliff Lake, NJ died peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023, after a brief illness. Beloved husband of the late Mary Lou McTiernan née O’Connell (2011), loving and proud father of Lynn Mary McTiernan of Hoboken, NJ.
Scot was born in Glasgow, Scotland in May of 1937 and moved to New Jersey at the age of 13. Scot was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1960-1966. Before retirement, he worked for Hoffman La Roche as the head of the Package Development and Design Division. Scot and Mary Lou vacationed in Maine for many years with their extended family before retiring there in 2000 after raising their daughter in Woodcliff Lake. An excellent host, Scot had an open-door policy and treated his daughter’s friends as his own. Scot was immensely proud of his Scottish heritage, and each year was ever hopeful that the Giants would prevail. He loved Maine, his family, his friends, and was always ready for a good time, a bar stool, and a glass of Cabernet and conversation with his people. People gravitated towards Scot and he collected friends from all walks of life. Many of his friends became family, and we are eternally grateful for the myriad ways they enriched his life.
Scot leaves behind his daughter Lynn McTiernan of Hoboken, brother Frank McTiernan and his wife, Debbie, of Waldwick, NJ, goddaughter Kelly Matesic and her husband Mario, and their children Cameron James, and Avery. His sisters-in-law Eileen Sudol and Jeannie O’Connell and Elizabeth O’Connell, his beloved nieces and nephews Lisa and Ronnie Murillo, Christie Sudol, Godson David and his wife Lexie O’Connell, James and Kristine O’Connell, and Lauren O’Connell, and his great and great-greats Jessica Murillo, Patrick Russo, Tyler Russo, JC Murillo, Jenna Murillo, Liam O’Connell, Kate O’Connell, James O’Connell, Joseph O’Connell, Eiley O’Connell, Jordan Murillo, Logan O’Connell, Aria Taylor, Aiden Navvaro and Jameson Russo.
