VICENTE, JOSEPH (JOSE), 88, of Fair Lawn passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 8, 2017. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Sally (2014). Loving father of Joseph Anthony & his wife Katharine, Dorian & her husband Julio, James & his wife Michelle. Devoted brother of the late Evaristo (2013). Adored grandfather of Julian, Justin, Joseph, Elizabeth, James and Andrew.
At age 16, Jose and his younger brother Evaristo (14) immigrated in 1944 to the United States by ship from Spain via Portugal across the Nazi submarine infested Atlantic Ocean landing at the Port of Philadelphia to be met by his father. Since then, Jose went on to become an American citizen working hard at various jobs establishing a nice life for him and his family as a lifelong resident of New Jersey. Joseph was a member of St. Catharine RC Church, Glen Rock and Club Espanol, River St Paterson. Before retiring in 1984 he worked as a foreman for the Ridgewood Water Department, Ridgewood, NJ.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, May 12th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Scillieri-Arnold Funeral Home, 351 Fifth Avenue, Paterson. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13th at 9:30 AM at St. Catharine RC Church, Glen Rock. Entombment will follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Fair Lawn.
